Section I What the association is
AIPIA is a voluntary-membership professional association constituted under Italian Law 4/2013.
Italian Law 4/2013 is the Italian legislation on Italian legislation on unregulated professional bodies. It provides a statutory framework for associations of practitioners in fields that are not organised into a regulated profession with a compulsory register. Membership is entered into voluntarily and is not a condition of practising anything.
The association was founded on 23 May 2025 and registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate, the Italian Revenue Agency, on 19 June 2025. It is a non-profit body. Its founding act and statute are published.
Statutory professional oversight of artificial intelligence practice in the United Kingdom sits with the bodies listed in the next section.
Section II Where statutory oversight sits
These six bodies hold the statutory remits.
Each regulates artificial intelligence within the sector it already regulates. Membership of a professional association is additional to their requirements and substitutes for none of them.

Accredited member, European AI Alliance
The European AI Alliance is the multi-stakeholder forum convened by the European Commission on artificial intelligence policy. AIPIA has held accredited membership since 2025.

Official Endorser, Rome Call for AI Ethics
AIPIA is an official endorser of the Rome Call for AI Ethics.

Accredited issuer of European Digital Credentials
Qualifying AIPIA programmes issue European Digital Credentials, the official credential format of the European Commission, sealed under the eIDAS Regulation (EU) 910/2014 and held in the Europass wallet.

UNI 11621-8:2026 — twelve AI professional profiles
The standard codifies twelve professional profiles for artificial intelligence roles. It is the first European codification of AI job roles.
Section IV Four points of precision
Four things it is worth being exact about.

Chartered status is held by British chartered institutes
Chartered status in the United Kingdom is granted by Royal Charter. In information technology it is held by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, whose professional membership and Chartered IT Professional registration are recognised across British industry. AIPIA’s recognitions are European and Italian, and they are set out above. A reader choosing between the two should know that they are different kinds of thing, granted by different authorities, and that they can be held at the same time.

The European AI Alliance Stakeholders’ Catalogue is reserved to the EEA and Switzerland
Listing in the Stakeholders’ Catalogue is open to organisations established in the European Economic Area and Switzerland. A United Kingdom organisation is not eligible. AIPIA’s accredited membership of the European AI Alliance is held by the Italian association and is genuine. It belongs to the Italian entity, and it does not transfer to a member’s own organisation, in the United Kingdom or anywhere else.

Membership is standing, not conformity
Membership of a professional association is not a compliance certification. It does not discharge an obligation under the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), and conformity assessment under that Regulation follows the routes the Regulation specifies. What membership provides is professional standing, guidance written for the European framework, and a verifiable record of training and affiliation.

Insurance is a contract with an insurer
Professional liability insurance for artificial intelligence practitioners is available to members through an insurance partner. AIPIA is not an insurance intermediary. Any policy taken up is a contract between the member and the insurer, on the insurer’s terms, and the association is not a party to it.
Section V What membership does give
Stated positively: a European affiliation, a verifiable credential, and a vote.
Membership costs €24 a year. It carries a digital member card with a unique verification link, a reserved area of resources, optional listing in the public directory, member events, negotiated rates on tools and services, representation before the European Commission through the European AI Alliance, one vote in the general assembly, and the right to use the member badge under the association’s guidelines.
Qualifying programmes issue a European Digital Credential, sealed under the eIDAS Regulation (EU) 910/2014 and held in the Europass wallet, which a verifier checks through European Union infrastructure rather than by asking anyone’s opinion of the issuer.
