The Associazione Italiana Professionisti dell’Intelligenza Artificiale (AIPIA) is a non-profit professional association for artificial intelligence practitioners, constituted under Italian Law 4/2013 and accredited to the European AI Alliance, the European Commission’s multi-stakeholder forum on artificial intelligence. It has 500+ members and has been open to members outside Italy since its foundation.

Section I The position
The rules that judge British artificial intelligence work are written in Brussels and enforced from 2 August 2026.
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) applies on a market basis. A provider established outside the European Union falls within scope when its system reaches the Union market, or when that system’s output is used in the Union. British firms selling into the single market are inside it.
Enforcement began on 2 August 2026. The prohibitions, the general-purpose artificial intelligence rules, the artificial intelligence literacy duty and the Article 50 transparency obligations are live. Article 50 requires a deployer to disclose that a person is interacting with an artificial intelligence system, and a provider of a generative system to mark its outputs in machine-readable form.
Obligations for high-risk systems in Annex III follow on 2 December 2027, and for high-risk systems embedded in regulated products under Annex I on 2 August 2028. Those two dates were set by the Digital Omnibus on artificial intelligence, in force since 27 July 2026. Much published guidance still quotes the superseded date.
The United Kingdom has moved the other way. Section 80 of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 came into force on 5 February 2026, replacing Article 22 of the UK GDPR. The general prohibition on solely automated decision-making now applies only where the processing relies on special category data.
A practitioner serving both markets holds two standards at once, and only one of them has a professional body organised around it.

Section II The member card
Membership is a document, and the document is verifiable.
Every member receives a digital card at registration, carrying a unique verification link. The verification page reports status, membership level and validity in real time, so a client or employer can confirm standing without asking the association or the member.
Membership is annual from the date of registration. Inclusion in the public directory of artificial intelligence professionals is opt-in, and the directory publishes first name, surname, city and freelance availability — nothing further.

The European AI Alliance is the multi-stakeholder forum convened by the European Commission on artificial intelligence policy. AIPIA has held accredited membership since 2025.

Qualifying AIPIA programmes issue European Digital Credentials, the official credential format of the European Commission, sealed under the eIDAS Regulation (EU) 910/2014 and held in the Europass wallet.

UNI 11621-8:2026 — twelve AI professional profiles
The standard codifies twelve professional profiles for artificial intelligence roles. It is the first European codification of AI job roles.
Section V Training and credential
A credential issued in the European Commission’s own format.
Qualifying programmes issue a European Digital Credential, sealed under the eIDAS Regulation (EU) 910/2014 and held in the Europass wallet. It is verifiable across the European Union by infrastructure rather than by reputation: a verifier checks the seal, not the issuer’s standing.
Programmes run in English, Italian, Spanish. The Advanced course is twelve hours across five live sessions, with a practical session led by a member of the Scientific-Technical Committee and a final examination.

Section VI Where oversight sits
Statutory oversight of artificial intelligence practice in the United Kingdom sits with the existing sector regulators.
AIPIA is a voluntary-membership association constituted under Italian Law 4/2013. The bodies below hold statutory remits over artificial intelligence within their sectors, and membership of a professional association does not substitute for any of them. Setting that out plainly is part of what a professional body is for.
